Available operating systems

The “Betriebssystem” (operating system) field in the order form shows which operating systems you can choose. The list comes directly from the data center, so it is always up to date – e.g. Debian, Ubuntu and Windows Server.

Choosing the OS when ordering

In the order form, select the operating system from the drop-down list. It is installed automatically during provisioning.

Reinstalling the OS

warning
Warning: data loss!

A reinstall completely and irreversibly deletes all data on the VM. Back up all important data first. Existing backups are kept.

  1. Open the KVM panel: Dashboard → “Servers” → click “KVM” next to your KVM server.
  2. In the command bar at the top, click “Neu installieren” (reinstall).
  3. Type the server name shown to confirm.
  4. Click “Neu installieren” again. The current operating system is set up from scratch; SSH keys you stored in the “Sicherheit” (security) tab under “SSH-Keys” are added.
  5. Afterwards, you'll find the user and password in the overview of the KVM panel. There you can also set a new root password with “Neues Passwort erzeugen” (generate new password).

Different operating system?

A reinstall sets up the current system again. To install a different operating system, use an ISO image (“Erweitert” (advanced) tab → “ISO / Rescue”) and the console – or ask support.
