Opening DNS management

No “DNS” tab?

Not every domain has the DNS tab – it depends on which registrar manages the domain on our side. If it is missing, enter the nameservers of an external DNS provider (e.g. Cloudflare) in the “Nameserver” tab and manage your records there. Even with the DNS tab, records only apply while the domain uses our nameservers.

Record types explained

  • chevron_rightA record: points a domain/subdomain to an IPv4 address. Example: yourdomain.de → 1.2.3.4
  • chevron_rightAAAA record: like an A record, but for IPv6 addresses.
  • chevron_rightCNAME record: an alias for another domain. Example: www → yourdomain.de
  • chevron_rightMX record: mail server address. Required for your own email addresses.
  • chevron_rightTXT record: free-text entries. Used for SPF, DKIM and domain verification (Google, Stripe etc.).
  • chevron_rightNS record: delegates a subdomain to other nameservers.
  • chevron_rightAlso available: ALIAS (like CNAME, but also works for the root domain), SRV (services, e.g. Minecraft), CAA (allowed certificate authorities) as well as “Weiterleitung (301)” (redirect) and “Weiterleitung (Frame)” (frame redirect).

Pointing a domain to your server IP

The quickest way is “Mit meinem Server verbinden” (connect to my server) at the top of the DNS tab: select the server, optionally tick “auch www.…” (also www) and click “Verbinden” (connect). To do it manually, add an A record under “Eintrag hinzufügen” (add record):

DNS changes take 1–60 minutes to propagate worldwide. Check the status with: dig yourdomain.de A
