URL forwarding automatically sends visitors of your domain to another URL — useful, for example, to forward a short domain to a longer one.
Setting up forwarding
- Dashboard → Domains → open the domain.
- If the domain has the “Redirect” tab: enter the target URL (e.g. https://yourwebsite.de/path), choose “Redirect (301)” or “Frame (URL stays)” as the type and click “Save”.
- If the domain has the “DNS” tab instead: under “Eintrag hinzufügen” (add record), choose the type “Weiterleitung (301)” or “Weiterleitung (Frame)”, enter the target address as the value and click “Hinzufügen” (add).
- A redirect set up in the DNS tab only works while the domain uses our nameservers.
info
There are exactly two types: the redirect (301) and the frame. Which of the two ways you see depends on the registrar that manages the domain on our side. A temporary redirect (302) is not offered.
lightbulb
Use the redirect (301) when visitors and search engines should see the new address. With a frame, your domain stays in the address bar and the target page is embedded – some websites forbid embedding, and it is unfavorable for search engines.
